October 2006 Prayer List
Month - October 2006: Please pray for the following needs of St. Matthew Church.
October’s scripture verse:
1 John 2: My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
October’s New Requests:
• For the St. Matthew’s committees and outreach ministries specifically:
o Religious Education – let the Holy Spirit bless and educate the students.
• Bless our parish with the gift of hospitality.
• Bless and prosper the Fall Festival. Develop a spirit of community and friendship.
• Thank you for a prosperous Western Bid and Bite night.
• God's will and the power and movement of the Holy Spirit to be present at the evening CSS Bible study starting this month. May individuals grow spiritually as well as the nurturing and cultivating effects that God would have for the fellowship and community of St. Matthew.
• For Religious Education teachers, aides and students. May they grow closer to Christ and deepen their faith.
Existing Requests:
• Armed Forces – may God’s protection surround our troops, especially the men and women serving from St. Matthew. May God strengthen their families.
• St. Matthew’s two, five and 10 year planning. May the Holy Spirit direct our future.
• For an increase in stewardship in our parish, that more people will give of their time, treasure and talents for the good of our community.
• We thank God for providing money for debt reduction. We ask that He grant us continued favor for the remaining amount.
• We lift us the priests of the Archdiocese and the Topeka region as they bless us through their faithful service.
• Strengthen and guide Father Jerry during his sabbatical.
Sabbatical Prayer (This will be the Prayer Committee’s prayer for three months.)
Father of Light and source of all goodness, we your people of faith at St. Matthew's ask that your grace and blessing be upon us and upon our parish during this time of repentance, rest and renewal. Help us to be truly sorry for the times we have hurt one another, and to seek your gift of forgiveness. May we find rest in your love and be ever mindful of your holy presence I n our own lives and in the life of our parish. Renew within us the gift of your Spirit, who dwells in our hearts and leads us closer to you. This we ask in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
